Al Masmak Palace Museum

A historic fortress and museum documenting the recapture of Riyadh and the unification of Saudi Arabia.

Al Masmak Palace is one of Riyadh’s most important historical landmarks. Built in 1865, the former fortress is closely associated with King Abdulaziz’s recapture of Riyadh in 1902. Today, its museum displays photographs, maps, weapons, traditional objects, and exhibits documenting the Kingdom’s founding and unification.
